Phil Thompson has urged Sven-Goran Eriksson to bring Jamie Carragher to the World Cup in place of the injured Gary Neville. Neville broke a bone in his foot last week and will now almost certainly miss the finals and Eriksson has a number of right backs hoping to claim the vacant position.
Thompson said, "I would like to think Jamie Carragher would have a great chance of going to the World Cup finals regardless of the unfortunate injury to Gary Neville. He has been one of our most consistent performers again this season, he's never ever let us down and can play in a few different positions as he has already shown for us and England."
The vacant position would appear to be up for grabs between Owen Hargreaves, Danny Mills and Carragher.
