Lee Carsley is hoping that his part in Everton's Premiership survival will earn him a place in Mick McCarthy's World Cup plans. Carsley was a part of the Blackburn Rovers and Coventry sides that were relegated in recent years but has halted that trend with some solid performances for Everton manager David Moyes and is now setting his sights on Japan and Korea this summer.
He said, "I hope I have done enough for Mick McCarthy over the years to get my name into the Irish squad. I have never let Mick down. I have always given my all for Mick and the team so I hope that's enough."
He continued "When David Moyes arrived I started in the side and then got injured, so it's nice now to be back with a couple of games to go and then hopefully the World Cup in the summer."
