Keane up for PFA award

Manchester United and Republic of Ireland captain Roy Keane is among the six players nominated for the 2002 Players' Player of the Year award announced today by the Professional Footballers Association. Keane, who won the award in 2000, is joined on the nominations list by team-mate and fellow midfielder David Beckham, who is the only English man up for the senior prize.

The third midfielder nominated was Arsenal's Robert Pires whose Premiership season and World Cup dreams were cut short by a knee injury. Leading Premiership strikers Ruud van Nistelrooy, Thierry Henry and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink have also been nominated.

Young player of the year 2002 nominations: Craig Bellamy (Newcastle United), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Ledley King (Tottenham Hotspur), Michael Ricketts (Bolton Wanderers), John Terry (Chelsea), Darius Vassell (Aston Villa).
