McLeish must sell to raise funds: Murray

Rangers manager Alex McLeish has been told by his chairman David Murray that he must sell players to raise cash before he can splash out on new personnel. The club's debts have been escalating in recent times and Murray says the only way McLeish will be able to buy new players is to sell.

"We cannot continue to spend money the way we have been, although they have been exceptional times having spent so much on players and built the training ground. However, what I will say is that any player who goes for any value, then Alex will be given the money to go out and buy another player," Murray told the club's website.

Rangers have spent £45 million on training facilities, new young players and extending player contracts over the past 18 months. A £13m loss in the last six months has brought the Ibrox club's debts up to near £30m.
