Arsenal have reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup after beating Newcastle 3-0 in their quarter-final replay at Highbury this afternoon. Arsene Wenger’s side got off to the perfect start after just a minute when inspirational French winger Robert Pires curled a shot past Shay Given after being set up by Dennis Bergkamp.
The roles were reversed eight minutes later when Pires provided the cross for Bergkamp to extend the Gunners’ lead. Pires was then forced out of the action with a knee injury although thankfully for Arsenal and France, reports suggest the damage is not too serious.
A Sol Campbell header completed the victory for Arsenal five minutes into the second half.
