Shelbourne's lead at the top of the eircom Premier Division has been cut to two points following their scoreless draw with UCD and St Patrick's Athletic's 1-0 victory over Shamrock Rovers this evening. Shels were hoping to capitalise on the recent controversy surrounding their title rivals, but were held by a well disciplined UCD at Belfield.
Meanwhile, a Darragh Maguire goal just before half-time was all that separated Pat's and Shams at Richmond Park, and the Inchicore club are now just two points behind leaders Shels with two games in hand.
Elsewhere, Bray Wanderers relinquished a two goal lead at home to Bohemians and had to settle for a share of the spoils as two second half strikes from Colin Hawkins and Glenn Crowe cancelled out first half efforts from Paul Keegan and Robert Doyle.
In the night's other games, Dundalk did their prospects of avoiding the drop the world of good with a thrilling 4-2 victory over Derry City, while Longford Town enhanced their survival hopes with a 2-0 win over Galway United at Terryland Park. In the First Division, Drogheda United scored a comprehensive 6-1 rout over Dublin City to stretch their lead to four points, while Cobh Ramblers and Waterford United played out a 0-0 draw at St Coleman's Park.
