Aston Villa defender Steve Staunton has warned his team-mates they are all playing for their future at Villa Park. Staunton, the Republic of Ireland's most capped player, believes that new boss Graham Taylor will launch a summer overhaul of the squad he inherited from John Gregory.
"I think that there is a cloud over everyone to be honest in so much as the manager is looking at players," Staunton said. "I think the manager knows deep down between now and in the summer what he is going to do."
Taylor has given youth a chance since his appointment, calling up German midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger and bringing Gareth Barry back into the first-team set-up. "You have got to do that because it is what football is all about," Staunton said. "You need your experienced players, but you also need plenty of young players coming through and a stable team of 20-somethings."
"At Villa we have been too young or too old. We have ever had an in-between side that could grow together. But I think the manager will do that. He is prepared to give people a chance," Staunton added.
