Paul Gascoigne has signalled his intent to play on for at least another two years after yesterday completing a loan move to Burnley from Everton. The former England midfielder agreed to join Burnley until the end of the season, a decision which was believed to have been sparked by the sacking of Walter Smith last week. Gascoigne, however, has denied these claims and says he was planning the move before Smith’s removal.
The 34-year-old says he will wait until the summer to decide if he’ll make the Burnley move a permanent deal, and added that if he doesn’t want to he won’t be stuck for options.
“I have a couple of Premiership teams interested in signing me as well as offers from Dubai and America. But I will wait until the summer before sitting down and considering all my options. If I like it at Burnley I don’t see any reason why I should not stay here but all I am concerned with at the moment is helping them to get into the Premiership,” Gascoigne told the News of the World newspaper.
“I am feeling fit and sharp and there was nothing wrong with my form before I was left out of the Everton team. I won 10 man of the match awards at Everton earlier in the season. I feel I can play for another couple more years yet at a high level,” he added.
