Everton have appointed former Preston North End boss David Moyes as their new manager, the premier league club announced on Thursday. Moyes, who replaces Walter Smith at Goodison Park, has signed a deal that includes the remainder of this season plus another four, the club said in a statement. He will take charge for Saturday's league game against Fulham.
Moyes, 38, was due to hold a news conference later on Thursday after the two clubs finally settled a disagreement over the compensation package due to the first division club. Preston had been holding out for three million pounds ($4.25 million) for a man they regard as the best young manager in British soccer. Everton, who sacked Smith on Wednesday, did not give details of the settlement.
