Rio Ferdinand, Nigel Martin and Alan Smith held a press conference at their training ground today to come out in support of their coach Brian Kidd.
Travelling fans abused Brian Kidd during the controversial 0-0 draw at Everton on Sunday, which virtually ends Leeds' dreams of Champions League football and has done little to help them qualify for the UEFA Cup. The fans' reaction caused Chairman Peter Ridsdale to march around the perimeter track to confront angry Leeds fans.
The three players today said they fully supported Kidd and that the blame for a run, which has seen Leeds not win in 10 matches, lies with the players and not the coach.
Smith explained saying, “If you ask Kiddo he will tell you just how badly he wants to do well for Leeds. As far as I am concerned he has done a marvellous job, and it's now down to the lads to put things right because we are the ones who do the business when we cross that white line. The fans are looking for an excuse. But we are all in this together and we as players are 100% behind Brian Kidd and David O'Leary.”
