Abel Xavier has joined Phil Thompson in praise of Nicolas Anelka and urged him to join the Reds permanently if offered a contract at the end of the season. Anelka scored his third goal for Liverpool during Saturday’s 2-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage, and Xavier was quick to praise the Portuguese international saying, “All the players see that Anelka is great for the team. We like playing with him and he’s an important member of the squad. I think it would be good if he stays.”
Anelka opened the scoring for Liverpool after 13 minute when he made space for himself with a short run into the box before curling a left-footed drive into the far bottom corner of the goal. Jari Litmanen got Liverpool’s second on 90 minutes when he nodded the ball past the onrushing Edwin van der Sar before scoring from tight angle.
