Platini aiming for UEFA, FIFA seats

French soccer legend Michel Platini has put himself forward as a candidate for election to both the UEFA and FIFA Executive Committees. Platini, who is regarded as one of France's all-time great players, and who later managed the national side, will be hoping to win seats on both Committees at the UEFA Congress elections in Stockholm on April 25.

The 46-year-old has been an advisor to FIFA president Sepp Blatter for the past four years and his candidature is being seen as a step to possibly succeeding Lennart Johansson as UEFA president in due course.

If Platini is successful in his election bid he will become the first former player of such a high profile to sit on the UEFA and FIFA Executive Committees.
