Dundalk battle on with vital away win

Dundalk continued their battle against relegation from the eircom League Premier Division with a vital 3-1 away win at Longford Town this evening. Ciarán Kavanagh put the visitors ahead on 19 minutes and a mere 60 seconds later it was 2-0 when Gary Haylock scored. Haylock pounced again on the stroke of half-time and there was no way back for Longford, despite the fact that they pulled one back through Danny Spiller, who then missed a penalty on 62 minutes.

In the eircom First Division, Waterford United enjoyed a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Kilkenny City at Buckley Park, which pushes them up to third in the table. Gary Dempsey opened the scoring in the 16th minute and Andy Myler scored twice before the break to secure all three points in the battle of the South-East clubs.

In tonight's other First Division action, Finn Harps made the long journey to St Coleman's Park where they came away with a 2-1 win that keeps their promotion chances very much alive. Kevin McHugh put them ahead in just the fifth minute of the game and Brendan Devanney added Harps' second in the 57th minute. Donal Golden scored a consolation strike for the bottom of the table Ramblers in the 71st minute.
