Gerrard to miss Merseyside derby

Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has been ruled out of tomorrow's Merseyside derby against Everton at Anfield. Gerrard was stretchered off during Wednesday's Champions League draw with Galatasaray but the Reds are hopeful he will be fit to line-out in the return match in Istanbul on Tuesday.

"Steven has been for a scan which has revealed a groin strain. Saturday's game has come too quickly for him but he has had these niggling injuries before and has proved he can make quick recoveries. We leave for Istanbul on Sunday and hope he will be able to travel," Liverpool's caretaker manager Phil Thompson told British newspapers.

Meanwhile, Liverpool keeper Jerzy Dudek will have a late fitness test on a troublesome groin strain ahead of tomorrow's game. Chris Kirland, who deputised for Dudek against Galatasaray, stands by for his Liverpool Premiership debut.
