Shels fail in High Court appeal

Shelbourne Football Club has lost a High Court challenge to a decision to restore nine eircom League points to Premier Division title rivals St Patrick's Athletic. St Pat's had originally been deducted the points after fielding an unregistered player, Paul Marney, in three league matches at the beginning of the season.

However, the points were later restored following a protracted arbitration process, which prompted Shelbourne's appeal to the High Court. In a lengthy judgement this evening, Mr Justice Phillip O'Sullivan said the High Court would not be interfering in the arbitration process.

St Pat's remain four points adrift of leaders Shels at the top of the eircom Premier Division, although they do have a game in hand.
