Everton made a double-signing today with the capture of Republic of Ireland midfielder Lee Carsley from Coventry and French winger David Ginola from Aston Villa.
Coventry had turned down Everton’s initial offer of £1.4 million for Carsley – rising to £1.75 million on appearances – but the Goodison Park club’s revised offer of £1.9 million has been accepted by the Coventry board. Carsley has signed a four-and-a-half year contract.
Meanwhile, Ginola brought the curtain down on his troubled stint at Aston Villa by signing for the Merseyside club until the end of the season. The former French international’s move was confirmed by his agent Chantal Stanley on Ginola’s website www.ginola14.com, as well as by a club spokesman.
"I can confirm we have signed David until the end of the season. There is no fee involved," an Everton spokesman told Reuters.
