Carsley’s Coventry career may be over

Lee Carsley may have played his last match for Coventry. The Republic of Ireland midfielder, who is desperate to play in the World Cup, is wanted by Everton, who are expected to improve on the £1.5million offer rejected by Coventry at the weekend.

Carsley missed last night's 2-0 win over Rotherham with a flu bug, as goals by defender Mo Konjic and striker Lee Hughes in the last 12 minutes earned the home side their first home win since Christmas. Coventry boss Roland Nilsson said: "He looked very pale when he reported in this morning and we sent him to bed."

Coventry need to drastically prune their wage bill and fuelled speculation they may be ready to off-load striker Lee Hughes, who was relegated to the substitutes' bench.
