Rangers beat Celtic to reach Cup final

Rangers dumped Celtic out of the Scottish League Cup tonight with a narrow 2-1 victory after extra-time. Dutchman Bert Konterman was the hero for Rangers when he smashed a long-range drive in the 105th minute.

Rangers had taken the lead against Martin O’Neill’s side on the stroke of half-time when Peter Lovenkrands pounced on hesitancy in the Celtic defence to slip the ball past Rob Douglas. Celtic drew level with just over 15 minutes to go when Bobo Balde bundled the ball home from close range after a goal-mouth scramble.

Georgian striker Shota Arveladze then missed a penalty for Alex McLeish’s side before Konterman’s intervention in extra time. Rangers will play either Hibernian or Ayr in the final.
