Manchester City's promotion charge was interrupted by Wimbledon today as the London club inflicted a 2-1 defeat on the English first division leaders. Two Neil Shipperley goals at Selhurst Park, sent City, who are also through to the fifth round of the FA Cup, to their first defeat in 11 matches.
Shipperley's 34th-minute opener was cancelled out by Algerian Ali Benarbia nine minutes after the break. But Shipperley headed the winner 15 minutes later and Wimbledon held on for victory. City's misery was complete in stoppage time when Stuart Pearce became the eighth City player to be sent off this season with a clumsy challenge on an opponent.
Norwich City moved back into the top six with a 2-1 win over Sheffield United at Carrow Road. Darren Kenton scored in the 72nd and 74th minutes, and Michael Brown's 77th-minute reply for United was in vain.
