Houllier to return in March

Liverpool have confirmed that manager Gerard Houllier will return to the club in March. The Anfield boss is currently recovering after undergoing major heart surgery in October.

Speculation had been mounting that Houllier would return to Liverpool at the end of January or the beginning of February. That has now been discounted even though the Frenchman returned to England last week from a spell convalescing in Corsica.

"Gerard is fine and he is going to be back in a few weeks time. But that may be four weeks, maybe a little longer. I've seen him and he's come back with a good tan. He is doing all the things the doctors here are telling him to do," said assistant manager Phil Thompson.

Houllier will now miss his team's return to Champions League action later this month with two matches against Turkish side Galatasaray. He may also miss Liverpool's clash with Barcelona in mid-March.
