Johansson to continue as UEFA president

UEFA president Lennart Johansson is set to continue for a further four years in the job after European football's governing body confirmed today he is the sole nominee in elections for the position's next term of office. The 72-year-old Swede was first elected to the post in 1990 and was a central figure in negotiating the new European transfer regulations with his counterpart at FIFA, Sepp Blatter.

"I am delighted and proud to have been nominated to serve another term as UEFA president," said Johansson. "UEFA has come a very long way in recent years and I believe that we can look forward to the next stage of our development with hope and optimism. I want to play my part over the next four years to help realise those principles and support the growth and development of our great game in Europe and internationally."
