Yorke's wage demands could end 'Boro interest

Dwight Yorke's wage demands could prevent his proposed move from Manchester United to Middlesbrough at a time when 'Boro manager Steve McClaren has been told by the Board to reduce his wage bill. The clubs are reported to have agreed a Stg£6.2million transfer fee, but Yorke is demanding a significant increase on the wages he receives at Old Trafford.

Yorke is believed to be looking for more than £40,000 a week, almost double the £24,000 a week he gets paid by United, but 'Boro will only pay £35,000 a week to the former Trinidad and Tobago international striker. Yorke's reluctance to sign could end Alex Ferguson's interest in West Ham's Paolo di Canio, and with the Champions League transfer deadline looming on Thursday, United are running out of time.

Meanwhile, Sunderland were today on the verge of completing a £1.5million deal for Swedish international midfielder Joachim Bjorklund. The 30-year-old Venezia player was at the Stadium of light this morning undergoing a medical and is expected to be unveiled by the club later this afternoon.
