Shamrock Rovers have jumped to the top of the eircom Premier Division table tonight after a 5-1 victory away to Longford Town. Rovers were gifted the lead after just eight minutes when Wes Byrne put through his own goal. That lead was doubled after 21 minutes through Tony Grant but Longford pulled a goal back nine minutes before the break thanks to Eric Lavine. However, Rovers did not panic and it wasn't long before they regained their two-goal advantage when Sean Francis scored their third after 38 minutes. Billy Woods made it 4-1 with 11 minutes left before he added his second with just two minutes left on the clock.
In Division One, Drogheda United have also taken over top spot in the table after their 3-1 win over bottom club Cobh Ramblers. Padraig Gillogley, Declan O'Brien and Mark Quinless scored for Drogheda while Donal Golden scored a consolation goal for Cobh.
Meanwhile, tonight's eircom League match between Waterford United and Finn Harps fell victim to the weather following the planned inspection at Ballybofey early this morning.
