Ireland's World Cup opponents Cameroon have progressed to the African Nations Cup quarter-finals with a lucky 1-0 win over Ivory Coast. Striker Patrick Mboma secured the victory with a late goal, heading in from a corner with just five minutes to go. The defending champions are top of group C, having taken a maximum six points from two games without conceding a goal.
Ivory Coast deserved to win, but were denied by their own wastefulness in front of goal as well as a superb point-blank save by Cameroon's Boukar Alioum from Aliou Siby Badara's 75th minute header. Former West Ham midfielder Marc-Vivien Foe twice went close for Cameroon early on, but the Ivorians grew in confidence as the match progressed and did not deserve to lose.
