Celtic winger Bobby Petta has welcomed Dick Advocaat's appointment as the new part-time coach of Holland. Advocaat will also continue in his current role at Rangers. He has agreed a deal until June 2003 with the Dutch Football Association (KNVB) to guide Holland through their spring friendly campaign before spending 10 days a month with the national side from July onwards.
Petta has come into previous manager Louis van Gaal's recent international squads but has missed out on his first cap through injuries. He said: "I think it's a good thing because he has been there before and has lots of experience. There are some Dutch players at Ibrox and obviously he knows what I can do as well, but he's got the experience of being manager before. I think he has got experience at that level and he knows most of the Dutch players and he has an idea of how he wants the Dutch team to play. But we'll have to wait and see if the success that he had before will occur again."
Rangers chairman David Murray said on the club's official website, www.rangers.co.uk: "I believe that this extended role will allow Dick even greater scope than already envisaged to see players from across the world at close quarters."
