Rangers star Lorenzo Amoruso is set to receive a special fair play award from Aberdeen supporters for his actions during last week's controversial league clash of the two clubs at Pittodrie. Amoruso, whose goal decided the outcome of the match, pleaded with his own supporters to stop throwing coins at Dons striker Robbie Winters before trouble escalated.
Now Aberdeen fans are keen to diffuse tensions between the two clubs by showing the Italian defender their gratitude for what he did. "Every Aberdeen fan appreciates what Amoruso tried to do to take the heat out of the situation," said Jack Douglas, chairman of the Association of Aberdeen Supporters Clubs.
"He didn't hesitate when the trouble first started and went straight over to the area where the coins were being thrown by spectators. Rangers should take pride in what Amoruso tried to do and most of the Dons fans I have spoken to so far support the idea of us also showing our appreciation," he added.
