Easy victory for Derry City

It's either a feast or famine for Derry City when it comes to scoring but after three games without a goal they managed to put six past Monaghan United tonight when the two sides met in the eircom Premier Division. It was so easy for the home side in the end as they notched up their biggest win of the season so far, beating Monaghan 6-1. Three Derry players scored two goals apiece with Liam Coyle, Padraig Moran and substitute Jamie Hughes getting on the scoresheet.

Andy McConville scored a consolation 82nd minute strike for Monaghan but based on this performance, it's hard to see the division's bottom club maintaining their Premier Division status. Derry now have 38 points from their 24 league games but despite this win they're still in fifth place, one point behind Cork City and seven points behind leaders St Patrick's Athletic.
