Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has warned Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson that the title race is far from over despite United taking over top spot on the Premiership table yesterday for the first time this season. Arsenal and Liverpool both lost ground on United on Sunday after the Red Devils beat Southampton but the two title challengers could only draw 1-1 at Highbury where Freddie Ljungberg's strike was cancelled out by John Arne Riise.
United are now odds-on favourite for the title despite the fact they are only top on goal difference from Newcastle and Arsenal are only two points behind them with a game in hand. Wenger is adamant that the title race is far from a foregone conclusion.
"It's not a big psychological blow. I was one of those who insisted that they were not out of it and now I am one of those who say they have not won it yet. There's a long way to go, for them as well. Don't worry. We know it's in our hands, even now. If we win our game in hand, we are top of the league. So why should we look at other teams?" explained Wenger.
"They had a team capable of having a good run of seven, eight or even 10 games and that's what has happened. But they haven't played anyone recently who plays for the title and they will also drop points. That's why I'm more concerned about us than anyone else. It's far from over. I'm convinced we can beat them," he added.
However, Wenger did admit to his frustration at watching his side relinquish a 1-0 lead against fellow title challengers Liverpool. "We were naive. You don't expect to be caught on the break when you're 1-0 up but the players gave everything," he said.
