Finn Harps completed a miserable week for Shelbourne with a 2-1 win in Ballybofey last evening to end the Dublin club's interest in this year's Carlsberg FAI Cup. The First Division outfit humbled their more illustrious opponents with a second half comeback following Jonathan Minnock's first half opener for the visitors. Under 21 star Niall Cook scored on his competitive debut to level the scores in the 55th minute, and Kevin McHugh struck the winner after 73 to dump Shels out of the cup in a week where they were knocked from top spot in the Premier Division by St Patrick's Athletic.
Meanwhile, Sligo Rovers secured their place in the fourth round with a 2-1 win over fellow First Division side Limerick FC at The Showgrounds. Captain Mark Hutchinson gave the home side the lead with a sixth minute strike, and their cause was further helped when Oran Weldrick was sent-off after 25 minutes. However, Kieran Foley replied for the visitors within ten minutes, but Sean Flannery hit the winner for Don O'Riordan's side after 62 minutes.
In the night's only eircom Premier Division fixture, Longford Town and Cork City played out a 0-0 draw at Flancare Park.
