Gregory charged with misconduct

Aston Villa boss John Gregory has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association for alleged abusive language towards referee Andy D'Urso. Gregory was sent from the dug-out shortly before half-time in the St Stephen's Day clash with Liverpool at Villa Park after a verbal confrontation with assistant referee Ray Gould and then D'Urso.

Gregory was unhappy with a penalty awarded against George Boateng for a challenge on Steven Gerrard. He also believed that Michael Owen was offside for Jari Litmanen's opening goal in Liverpool's 2-1 win. The Villa boss has already sent video evidence to the FA to back up his view that he had a legitimate claim against the decisions. Gregory was found guilty of a similar charge two years ago for an incident at Leicester.
