FAI re-open talks with Argentina

The Republic of Ireland's proposed friendly with World Cup favourites Argentina next April could be back on the cards after contacts between the FAI and their South American counterparts re-opened this week. The match was originally mooted after the draw for the World Cup finals was made, but it is believed the size of the fee demanded by the Argentines was beyond the FAI's budget.

However, it seems the 1978 and 1986 World Cup winners, who have been drawn in the same group as England, are reconsidering their position and have approached officials at Merrion Square to begin fresh talks. But according to the FAI, a decision won't be made until next week at the earliest.
