O'Neill rejects Old Trafford job rumours

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill has categorically denied that he will replace Alex Ferguson as Manchester United manager. O'Neill insists the only way that he would not see out the remaining 18 months of his contract at Parkhead is if the board sack him. "End of story," said O'Neill.

Celtic face Alloa on Saturday as they begin their campaign to retain the Scottish Cup, and O'Neill does not want anything to upset his side's momentum. "There are more important things to think about, like football games and trying to beat Motherwell and trying to prepare for the game with Alloa."

O'Neill's current contract is due to expire in the summer of 2003 and he would not discuss his plans beyond that. "I can't look into the future and I'm not prepared to do that," added O'Neill. "I've never done that in my life."

Yesterday's 2-0 victory over Motherwell at Parkhead opened up a 13-point gap over Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premier League. Rangers' game at Kilmarnock was postponed, but the sides have both now played 22 games each.
