McAllister adds MBE to trophy haul

Liverpool's Scottish midfielder Gary McAllister crowned an amazing twelve months by adding an MBE (Member of the British Empire) to the five trophies he picked up with the Anfield side this year. The 37-year-old was the only footballer among a large number of sports stars on the Britain's New Year honour list announced today.

McAllister's MBE made it six medals in what has been a remarkable year, not to mention the several individual accolades he received for his outstanding performances last season. The former Leeds United and Coventry City midfielder was honoured for his role in helping Liverpool win five trophies in 2001, plus his 20 years as a respected professional.

Former England manager Graham Taylor was awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire) for his services to football.
