Contrasting fortunes for Louth pair

There were contrasting fortunes for Louth neighbours Dundalk and Drogheda United in Tuesday night's Carlsberg FAI Cup second round replays. The eircom Premier Division side secured a 1-0 win over Galway United at Terryland Park thanks to a goal from Martin Reilly. The striker capitalised on the visitors' early dominance when he headed home a free-kick from Jonathan Prizeman on 29 minutes.

Galway's hopes of a late revival were dashed when skipper Billy Clery was sent-off for a second bookable offence ten minutes from time, and Dundalk held firm to earn a place in the third round. Fellow Louth side Drogheda lost 2-0 to Premier Division UCD at Belfield Park, with Alan McNally and Sean Finn scoring in either half.

McNally opened the scoring on 21 minutes finding the net with a low shot following a knockdown from Ciaran Martyn, while substitute Finn sealed the victory with a close range tap-in in injury time.

Meanwhile, there is one re-scheduled game in the FAI Cup tonight when Finn Harps play Greystones in Finn Park at 7.45pm.
