Bohemians successfully put their managerial troubles to one side tonight to defeat Longford Town 4-1 at Flancare Park in the FAI Cup. New boss Stephen Kenny could only watch the game as a spectator in the stands after Longford ensured their former boss would play no part in the Cup tie by taking their case to the High Court this week. However, in the end, the Dublin club, with or without Kenny's help, proved too strong for the hosts.
Bohemians opened the scoring after just nine minutes through Tony Folan after some confusion in the box. Eleven minutes later, they had doubled their lead when Trevor Molloy headed home after a brilliant chipped effort by Stephen Caffrey. Longford had one real chance to reduce the deficit in the first half when Stuart Hall's free-kick hit the post but Bohs went in at the interval firmly in control after Glenn Crowe's header found the back of the net.
After the break, Bohemians curtailed their attacks to protect their advantage and even though Alan Kirby managed to score a consolation effort for Longford with five minutes left, Bohs had the final say when Glenn Crowe scored his second of the night.
Tonight's other FAI Cup fixture between Finn Harps and Greystones was called off because of fog and frost.
