Italy's anti-doping officials tonight recommended that Jaap Stam should be suspended from football for 10 months. The Lazio defender tested positive for nandrolone on October 13 and a follow-up counter-analysis test gave a similar result.
Holland international Stam, who joined the Rome club from Manchester United for £16.5million in August, met with anti-doping chiefs today. Should the FIGC (Italy's football association) concur with the guidance, Stam would miss the remainder of the Italian season.
