Whelan tipped for Bohs hotseat

Former Liverpool and Republic of Ireland midfielder Ronnie Whelan has emerged as the hot favourite to succeed Pete Mahon as manager of Bohemians. Whelan has previous managerial experience with English side Southend, Greece’s Panionios and Cypriot outfit Olympiakos Nicosia.

Bohs have endured a poor run of results recently which has seen them win just two of their last 15 games. Despite this poor form, however, Mahon insists that his decision to resign had more to do with the abuse he and his family have suffered from supporters.

Liam O’Brien has taken over the role of caretaker manager of Bohemians until a full-time coach is appointed.
