Bohemians manager Pete Mahon has stood down from his post at the Dublin football club after a poor run of results. Mahon took over at Dalymount at the start of this season after the departure of Roddy Collins but the club, double winners in 2000/01, have not enjoyed a good start to the season and are currently lying in 7th spot on the eircom Premier Division table after winning just two of their last 15 games.
According to a statement released this afternoon, the decision was reached by mutal consent after a metting between Mahon and representatives of the club. "We regret that we have to make this announcement as during his term we have found Pete Mahon to be honourable, and totally committed to his duties," it read. The club is expected to make an announcement shortly regarding a successor to Mahon.
Mahon told RTÉ Sport that he felt his decision, although difficult to make, was the right choice. "We had a meeting tody and it was decided then but I had been thinking about it over the weekend since the St Pat's match. Some very unsavoury incidents happened during that game including some members of my family being abused by fans and I wasn't prepared to accept that."
"I came home to a very distressed household and it brought home to me how dangerous it could be in the future if I carried on there. I'm just very sad and sorry that it's come to this but it was totally my decision to leave, and it was not a decision I took lightly as I am very disappointed to leave Dalymount," he explained.
