Vikings win to go point clear at top

Dublin City beat Athlone to go top of the Eircom First Division, thanks to early strikes from Colm Notaro and Robbie Farrell. But an own goal from Maurice O'Driscoll meant that Dublin had to weather a nervous final thirty minutes, as Athlone went on the attack, seeking an equaliser. But it was no to avail, as Dublin weathered the storm and could have won by more in the end.

Farrell set up Notaro for the first after just six minutes, when he crossed for the winger to sidefoot home. Farrell then turned from creator into scorer, heading home a Brendan Kelly cross four minutes later. Athlone then went on the attack and did dominate possession, but apart from the own-goal, failed to turn this possession into any significant number of good chances. This win sends Dublin to the top of the Eircom First Division, a point clear of the pack.
