Giggs ruled out until New Year

Ryan Giggs is out until the New Year with a hamstring injury, after he pulled up during practice before Manchester United's clash with Bayern Munich. The Welsh international's career has been blighted by a series of injuries to his hamstring, and this disappointment rules him out of key clashes with Arsenal and Chelsea in the Premiership, and Boavista in the Champions League.

Quinton Fortune seems likely to fill United's left midfield berth, after a good performance in the Olympic Stadium, in Munich, last night. Fortune said: "The most important person to listen to is the gaffer because he will always tell you the truth. He is the one who picks the team and makes all the decisions so I think he is the most important person to listen to."

Ferguson believes that Giggs could return for the first game of the New Year, against Newcastle at Old Trafford. His absence, at a crucial time of the season, is a massive blow to United, who have been looking fallible for the first time in several seasons.
