Lavine grabs Longford win

Longford Town got out of jail against UCD on Monday night, scoring a last-gasp equaliser and then winning in extra-time, in the Eircom League Cup. Town now go through to the quarter-finals.

UCD had taken the lead after 47 minutes, when Sean Finn fired home from close range. That was just reward for the hard work and dominance that UCD had displayed. Indeed they would have been further ahead, but for some good work from Stephen O'Brien in the Longford goal.

Some of the home fans had left, when deep into injury time, Stephen Gavin popped up after a goalmouth scramble to equalise at the death. UCD seemed to have lost the will to win after that, and eight minutes into the extra-period, Eric Lavine scored the winner. Gavin crossed, Shay Zellor helped it on, and Lavine struck well.
