Leeds United centre-back Rio Ferdinand has been named the Barclaycard Player of the Month for October while Tottenham Hotspur boss Glenn Hoddle picked up the Manager of the Month award. Ferdinand received the award for helping his club to secure draws against fellow title contenders Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United while Hoddle was honoured for guiding Spurs to victory in all their matches in October against Derby County, Newcastle United and Middlesbrough.
"Rio has proved beyond doubt he is a world-class player. David O'Leary has appointed him team captain and he has responded by turning in some accomplished displays," explained the Barclaycard awards panel.
"Glenn Hoddle's name has long been associated with attractive football and that's what Tottenham have been playing of late. The former England boss has taken the reigns at White Hart Lane and, as the 100% record for October suggests, he has got his side winning games," added the panel.
