Akinbiyi pledges future to Foxes

Ade Akinbiyi has pledged his future to Premiership strugglers Leicester City after insisting he is happy at Filbert Street despite interest from former club Wolves. Akinbiyi has struggled to adapt to the Premiership since his club record £5million switch from the First Division side, and only registered his first league goal in the 1-0 victory over Sunderland nine days ago.

However, the 27-year-old striker revealed he is determined to prove himself in the top flight and is happy to do so if new manager Dave Bassett sees him as part of his long-term plans. Speaking to the Leicester City website, www.lcfc.co.uk, Akinbiyi admitted: "Obviously the last few weeks have been a little difficult but we had a good chat and the gaffer has told me he wants me to stay. He was honest with me and said the club had been in regular contact with Wolves but that they wanted to take me back to Molineux on loan. I don't think either the manager or the Leicester directors wanted to loan me out as they can't see the benefit to it. As I have said before, and re-confirmed during the meeting, if the manager wants me to stay at Leicester then that's what I'll do."

He continued: "I had a great year at Wolves and still keep in contact with the boys and coaching staff. I must admit I wouldn't have to think twice about moving back to Wolves but I don't think the circumstances are right at the moment to go back on loan. Both the gaffer and Micky Adams have been great over the past few weeks and if the gaffer had said he thought it was time for a change, then I would have had to listen. He's agreed to tell me if his plans change or if the club receives a permanent offer for me and I can only respect his honesty. All I want to do is play football and if the board and manager want me to play here at Leicester, then until that changes I will stay and do exactly that."
