There were no major surprises in the announcement of the England squad to face Sweden on Saturday. Trevor Sinclair and Darren Anderton were both included in the squad, as Eriksson embarks on a series of World Cup warm-up matches.
Anderton has been given his chance to claim a 2002 World Cup place after shaking off his recent injury nightmare while Kevin Phillips has again been chosen, despite struggling to find the net this season.
Sinclair, who requested a move from West Ham last month to improve his international chances, may well win his first cap as Eriksson is known to be an admirer of his.
Alan Smith of Leeds is again included after making his comeback from injury, but there are no places for Michael Carrick or Owen Hargreaves who both make the step-down to the Under-21's. Danny Murphy is included after a string of great performances for Liverpool in Europe.
Steve McManaman has not been chosen to allow him to play for Real Madrid while Ashley Cole and Nick Barmby are both injured. Andy Cole is also left out through injury, but Frank Lampard wins a recall, after being omitted last time because of a well-publicised drinking session he was involved with, on September 11th.
