Rio Ferdinand has been ruled out of Leeds' UEFA Cup match against Troyes, on Thursday night, after picking up a hamstring injury. The ex-West Ham centre-half has not even travelled with the squad for tomorrow's second round, second leg tie in France. The £18 million centre-back's absence is a major blow to manager David O'Leary's plans, although Leeds already hold a 4-2 lead from the first leg at Elland Road.
Leeds were already missing midfielder, Lee Bowyer, for the second leg. He is unable to play against Troyes because of the ongoing re-trial at Hull Crown Court. He is poised to undergo surgery this week after breaking his nose, in a clash with Nicky Butt, during Saturday's 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford. Despite the surgery, it is anticipated Bowyer will be able to play in the Premier League clash against Spurs at Elland Road on Sunday.
