Old Trafford bid to host Champions League final

Manchester United have submitted a bid to host the Champions League final in 2003. They made the decision to bid for the final following the successful staging of England v Greece, earlier this month. They join eight other venues that have submitted tenders to UEFA, for the right to host Europe's premier sporting occasion.

Old Trafford is up against a strong list of contenders, including; the Santiago Bernebeu in Madrid, Feyenoord's stadium in Rotterdam and the Stade de France in Paris. Villa Park, home of Aston Villa, is a contender for the UEFA Cup final in the same year. The UEFA committee will announce the winner of the bidding process on December 13th.

UEFA's director of communications, Mike Lee, said: "UEFA staff are now in the process of analysing the bids and carrying out site surveys of all the proposed stadia. The Executive Committee will then receive a detailed evaluation report in order to make the final decision at its December meeting."
