Gareth Barry has rocked Premiership tabletoppers Aston Villa by declaring: "I need a new club." The 20-year-old is frustrated at being on the fringes of the first team and believes he has no chance of playing for England while he does not figure in boss John Gregory's plans.
"There is no way forward for me at Villa now. I feel I need a new club and a new challenge," the former Brighton defender told the Mail on Sunday. "I am deeply grateful to the club for giving me my chance, but the simple fact is I have not played any first-team football this season and that is not good enough for my career."
"Even though I am still only 20, I consider myself a Premier League player. This time last year I was in the England squad and I want to be in there again. It cannot happen if I'm not playing first-team football," Barry added.
