Le Saux apologises to Mills over tackle

Chelsea captain Graeme Le Saux has apologised to Leeds defender Danny Mills for his horrendous tackle on the player during yesterday's Premiership clash at Elland Road. Earlier today, the FA confirmed they could take no further action against Le Saux for his two-footed lunge at Mills because it is not within their remit to add to the yellow card shown to Le Saux by referee Paul Durkin yesterday for the tackle in question.

The tackle outraged Leeds boss David O'Leary, who was sent off for remonstrating with Durkin moments after the half-time whistle. O'Leary now faces Football Association sanctions for protesting too vigorously at the tackle.

However, Le Saux has now held his hands up and apologised for his behaviour. "I accept that this type challenge is not in order and should have no place in the game," he said. "Having had the opportunity to view the video from the game on 21st October, I have written today and spoken to Danny Mills and also written to David O'Leary apologising for the tackle and any ongoing problems that they may have in connection with the incident. I regret my actions after what has been a difficult week for me and everyone at Chelsea Football Club," he added.
