Beleaguered West Ham boss, Glenn Roeder, has pleaded for more time as the pressure mounts on him. Following the Hammers' 7-1 destruction by Blackburn yesterday, speculation is rife that the rookie manager will be shown the exit from the Boleyn Ground.
Roeder, speaking after the match admitted he was "embarrassed" by the Hammers performance. But he insisted: "Believe me whether it is me or ultimately somebody else they won't have a magic wand to turn it round straight away. The club has been on a losing run now not just for this season, but for most of last season as well and just survived."
"I hope I'm given time, but like for any other manager that's other people's decisions." William Hill have now closed the book on Roeder, being in the Hammers' hot seat, at the end of the season. Roeder has not had the rub of the green, seeing his first signing, David James, sidelined by injury and another, Thomas Repka, sent off twice in three outings.
Roeder is now favourite to join Jim Smith and Peter Taylor in the ranks of the Premiership managerial casualties. The Irons' boss knows that time is running out for him, and the club. He said: "Here and in the defeat at Everton there were individual mistakes which were not acceptable at this level and if we carry on defending in the way we did today then we are going to be in serious trouble this season."
