Sven Goran Eriksson has announced the England squad to face Greece in a crucial World Cup qualifier. Eriksson has recalled Teddy Sheringham of Tottenham and Trevor Sinclair of West Ham to the England set-up.
Sheringham wins his place back thanks to Michael Owen's hamstring injury and could be drafted straight into the side, as a foil to Emile Heskey's pace. The Spurs striker has started the season well and was named footballer of the year last season. Trevor Sinclair has been selected after coming back from injury and putting in good performances, despite the Hammers' woeful start to the season.
David Seaman is also included, despite missing Arsenal's 2-0 win over Derby on Saturday. He is unlikely to be fit however, and either club colleague Richard Wright or Leeds' Nigel Martyn, will deputise between the sticks. Martin Keown is also recalled and could replace the injured Sol Campbell in the centre of defence.
Frank Lampard is dropped for this match, in what is being interpreted as a punishment for his involvement in a high-profile drunken incident. Eriksson is known to frown upon any drunkenness, whether the player is on international duty or not.
England Squad: David Seaman (Arsenal), Nigel Martyn (Leeds), Richard Wright (Arsenal), Martin Keown, Ashley Cole (both Arsenal), Phil Neville, Gary Neville (both Manchester United), Rio Ferdinand, Danny Mills (both Leeds), Ugo Ehiogu, Gareth Southgate (both Middlesborough), Jamie Carrgaher (Liverpool), David Beckham, Paul Scholes (both Manchester United) Nick Barmby, Steven Gerrard, Danny Murphy (all Liverpool), Steve McManaman (Real Madrid), Trevor Sinclair (West Ham), Andy Cole (Manchester United) Emile Heskey, Robbie Fowler (both Liverpool), Teddy Sheringham (Tottenham).
